I did not initially consider myself a transformative leader; however, I have come to understand that leadership is often not sought, but assigned through calling and purpose. After over two decades of service as an alumnus of NCCU, I know that I have been prepared, and now called, to serve during this juncture for our alumni association.

I assumed the role of National President during a period of both internal and external transition, but with a commitment to provide steady, purposeful leadership. Since that time, my focus has been on strengthening our alignment with the University, reinforcing organizational structure, and refocusing our work on student engagement, and long-term sustainability through intentional conversation and collaboration with our stakeholders.

My commitment to North Carolina Central University is deeply personal. As a second-generation Eagle, former Chancellor’s Scholar, graduate of the School of Business, and proud NCCU parent, I understand the legacy that I uphold and have a responsibility to continue. I am a direct beneficiary of the opportunities created through alumni engagement. That experience has grounded my dedication to ensuring that current and future students benefit from an engaged and impactful alumni network.

I believe our local chapters are the foundation of this Association and must work together in support of shared goals. At the same time, we must expand engagement opportunities for alumni who are not connected to a chapter through national initiatives, strategic programming, and intentional opportunities for service. Increasing membership, strengthening student and civic engagement, and aligning our efforts with the University’s Vision 2030 strategic priorities will remain central to my leadership.

If elected to serve a full term, I will continue to build a sustainable, well-structured, and impactful Alumni Association, focused on engagement and philanthropy, and positioned to support NCCU for generations to come.

1. What motivates you to serve on the alumni executive committee at this time?

 

I am motivated to serve at this time because our Alumni Association is at a pivotal juncture. One that calls for intentional leadership, stronger alignment with North Carolina Central University’s Strategic plan, a solid working relationship with University Administration,  and a refocused commitment to student success and the role of alumni engagement.

 

Having had the unique responsibility of navigating this role through the current transition of university administration and updated guidelines, I recognize both the responsibility and the opportunity before us. We are not operating at our full potential as a pillar of our university’s success. This is a time to work on building our visibility and repositioning our relevance by ensuring that our work as an Alumni Association is not only supportive of the University’s strategic priorities, but also impactful in the lives of our students and meaningful to alumni across all generations.

What motivates me most is the belief that alumni engagement should not begin at graduation, it should be cultivated while students are still on campus showing up and allowing them to see what alumni impact truly looks like. I am committed to strengthening that bridge by creating intentional pathways for students to connect, engage, and see themselves as lifelong members of our Eagle family. At the same time, I am deeply motivated to ensure that our local chapters are connected to a unified national vision. We need national priorities and programs that allow all alumni to engage, whether there is a local chapter near them or not. When our chapters are strong, our Association is strong, and when we are aligned with the University, we position ourselves for long-term sustainability and success.

 

2. What do you see as the biggest opportunity for our alumni community over the next 2–3 years?

 

The greatest opportunity for our alumni community over the next 2–3 years is to reimagine

alumni engagement as a lifelong, integrated experience that begins with our students and extends through every stage of the alumni journey.

As NCCU advances its strategic plan which is focused on student success, institutional growth, and community impact, we as an association have a unique opportunity as an Alumni Association to align our efforts in ways that are both visible and measurable.

 

This includes:

● Deepening student engagement through mentorship, career exposure, and early alumni

identity-building initiatives

● Expanding alumni participation in regions without local chapters through national

programming and digital engagement

● Strengthening local chapters by providing consistent resources, training, and clear

communication pathways

● Driving membership growth and philanthropy by connecting alumni back to our

PURPOSE, which is supporting scholarships, student experiences, and institutional

advancement.

We also have an opportunity to better leverage the power of our alumni network which we don’t currently maximize. Our alumni are leaders across industries, and when engaged properly, they can play a critical role in advancing internships, career pipelines, and real-world opportunities for our students.

If we do this well, we will not only increase engagement, but deepen impact and strengthen the legacy of NCCU for generations to come.

3. What specific impact would you like to have if elected?

​

My impact on our campus and our students has always been clear and measurable. If elected, I would continue to focus on four critical areas of impact for our association:

● Strengthening the student-to-alumni pipeline through intentional engagement, mentorship, and early connection with our students

● Empowering local chapters with centralized tools, training, and communication to increase effectiveness and alignment

● Creating national initiatives and programs that allow alumni with no local chapter affiliation to connect, engage and serve

● Aligning the association with NCCU’s strategic planning by supporting initiatives that drive student success, alumni giving, and institutional growth

 

My goal is to ensure our Alumni Association is more connected, more aligned, and more impactful in how we serve our students and support our alumni community.
